Coughlin Legal, PLLC, was built on a straightforward idea: clients deserve experienced counsel who are fully focused on their matter, responsive to their needs, and ready to act swiftly when it counts.
The firm brings a practical, entrepreneurial approach to every engagement. It leverages modern legal tools and technology to work efficiently and deliver clear, well-informed advice and work product. Clients receive high-quality work and genuine attention, grounded in relationships of mutual respect. Coughlin Legal advocates firmly while remaining approachable and supportive, and holds itself to the highest standards of professional responsibility.
That's the firm: focused, hands-on, responsive, and built for results.

The firm structures and documents commercial and residential deals, including purchase and sale agreements, deeds, promissory notes, deeds of trust, easements, loan packages and related financing instruments. It also conducts nonjudicial foreclosures. Work centers on protecting client interests through clear drafting, thorough due diligence, and practical risk allocation.

The firm forms and organizes Texas business entities and handles related business transactions. Work includes negotiating and documenting commercial agreements, joint ventures, financing arrangements, and other deal structures. The focus remains on creating clean, pragmatic results that protect client interests and support business objectives.

The firm provides day-to-day legal counsel for matters that arise outside a specific transaction, including contract review, dispute resolution, compliance questions, and general advisory support. Clients rely on the firm for constructive, timely guidance on the legal issues that arise in the course of running a business, without the delay or overhead of a larger firm.
Cody draws on more than a decade of experience advising clients. Immediately after law school, he served as Senior Legal Consultant at a large multinational firm, advising national governments and Fortune 500 companies on energy policy and legislation, experience that shaped how he approaches every client matter: directly, practically, and with an eye toward long-term outcomes.
He carried that same approach into private practice, spending nine years as managing member of an Austin-based real estate practice that operated a title insurance fee office. Overseeing both legal and title operations gave him hands-on exposure to every aspect of the real estate space. It also gave him insight into what it takes to run a business and lead the people who make it work, insight that shapes how he advises business clients today.
Cody is a past member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators. He holds a B.A. in Communication Studies from Southwestern University and a Juris Doctor (cum laude) from Oklahoma City University. While at OCU, he captained the Jessup International Law Moot Court Team and was inducted into the Phi Delta Phi legal honor society and the Order of Barristers. He also served as a summer clerk for the Hon. Jane J. Boyle of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
